A Reflection of my Choreographic Process (6)

We are about halfway through our choreographic process movement wise. I would like to get a good deal finished this week so we can focus on the execution of the technique and the storyline we're portraying. I think it is important we have time to really clean our dance before showcasing it, and making sure we're a hundred percent clear on the steps so we can give our all to the performance.

I found that splitting up and creating our own portions of choreography then coming back and teaching it the the rest of the group really helped with the storytelling aspect as we would explain why we had chosen specific movement which was beneficial for staying on track. One problem I found we were having is creating continuous movement rather than taking moments of breath and feeling the motif. I would like to take more time between steps to really make it flow instead of having just step after step.

We received feedback that we seemed to be favouring one side of our motif then the other in our choreography, the dance seems to feature more of the violence aspect and less of the peace and I feel it reflects what I was saying about taking moments of calm and breath. I plan on running through our original choreography and seeing where we can expand on our peace side. We also saw that due to the small space we are using to choreograph we are doubling back on ourselves so we need to review how we are using the space and different levels to add dynamic to our piece. Finally we are beginning to piece together how our choreography fits to the music. We have cut our music to meet the requirements and now we are focusing on hitting the accents on the music and now more importantly taking those softer sections and really filling them out.
